This is the first episode of SMC VS and I couldn’t be happier to have Jimmy Tsai – aka Ping Pong Playa, aka Christopher “C-dub” Wang – as the first victim, er, I mean, guest.
Previous to Beyond Badminton, I had only known Jimmy through his movie “Ping Pong Playa,” for which I attended the New York premier and thoroughly enjoyed both the film and his performance.
We started trading emails recently because of BBM and only met for the first time less than a month ago at the office. In all truthfulness, I expected Jimmy to be like his character in the film and his YouTube clips: a brash, cocky, Asian American who thinks he’s from the hood (if you haven’t seen them, go to www.venomsportswear.com and click on the ads).
I couldn’t have been more mistaken. I found Jimmy to be mild-mannered, intelligent, insightful, passionate and articulate. You’ll see more of this side of Jimmy in Part 2 of SMC VS Jimmy Tsai; I interview him about what he’s working on, as well as his passion for the San Antonio Spurs and basketball in general.
Judging from Part 1, I guess I’m the one who comes off as the brash, cocky guy from the mean streets of Vancouver … all in good fun with a sprinkling of showmanship.
